Named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press as a senior at Minnesota, Jacobson was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 1998 NBA Draft. The 6-6, 215-pound Jacobson finished fifth on Minnesota.s all-time scoring list with 1,709 points, five points more than former NBA great Kevin McHale. Twice Jacobson was named Second Team All-Big Ten, and is a USBWA honorable mention All-America pick. After making 13 starts, appearing in 31 games, and averaging 7.7 ppg as a freshman, he improved steadily to 12.8 ppg as a sophomore, 13.7 ppg as a junior, and a career-high 20.2 ppg as a senior. As a senior, he had 28 double-figure scoring games and a streak of eight straight games in which he scored 20 or more points. Jacobson scored a season-high 28 points vs. Purdue, and in the NIT Final, scored 23 points in Minnesota's 79-72 win over Penn State. Jacobson nailed 173 career three-pointers to finish his collegiate career at second place on Gophers' all-time list, shot .365 from long distance over his four seasons, and had 131 career steals to rank eighth on Minnesota's all-time list. In addition, at the Nike Desert Classic, he averaged 12.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, shooting 54 percent from field.
